Data We Use

Hearoism has two parts:

• the app you use to play the game (on your phone), and
• the backend that powers the DM (in the cloud).

As you play, the app transcribes what you are saying into text. This happens on device so your voice stays on your phone. Hearoism's backend sees transcriptions of what you said as text, not audio. Separately, Hearoism has a record button you can use to capture and remember neat moments. Recording your play saves an audio file on your phone. Hearoism does not upload these recordings to its backend or anywhere else. You can see and manage your recordings with the Files app.

As you play, the backend stores game data including (1) the unfolding dialogue and (2) a game world with your story's locations, characters, and so on. Your transcriptions are saved directly into the dialogue, and also indirectly influence your game world. The backend also receives data on app performance and errors.

To improve Hearoism's quality, reliability, and safety, we may analyze gameplay interactions, error logs, and performance data. This may include automated analysis as well as limited manual review of specific interactions and failures.

Personally Identifying Information

We minimize the identifying information we collect. This protects your privacy in the event that Hearoism's backend is ever hacked: attackers can't take what we don't have.

Hearoism uses Sign in with Apple to log you in. When you sign in, Apple creates and remembers a login code that is associated with your Apple ID. We use this code to store and retrieve your game data. This approach means we do not receive your name, email, Apple ID, or other information about you when you log in.

Hearoism uses Apple's Age Range for Apps to comply with laws like Texas SB 2420. Where required by law, Hearoism prevents you from raising the content maturity settings unless you (1) allow Apple to share your age bracket with the app, and (2) you are old enough to choose this content level. If you share your age bracket, Apple tells the app an age range like 13+ or 18+. The app uses this age range only for the specific purpose of limiting mature content choices. Your age bracket stays strictly on your phone. Our backend only sees the content choices you have picked.

Third Parties

Hearoism's cloud backend is hosted by AWS. We use AWS as a service provider to store and process your game data on our behalf. As part of this we use large language models through Amazon Bedrock to respond to you as you play. Bedrock does not share your game data with model providers or use it for model training.

Hearoism subscriptions are managed by the Apple App Store. As you subscribe or change your subscription, we do not receive any details about who you are or how you are paying. As you play, we occasionally confirm your subscription information with Apple. We do not share any information from your gameplay with Apple as part of these lookups.

We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not use your data for advertising.

Children

Hearoism is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Deleting Your Data

You can delete specific games or your entire account directly from the Hearoism app. Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. The game is immediately removed from our primary storage. Limited residual data from a deleted game may remain for a short time in our logs and emergency backups, which are retained for up to one month.
